Following my career as a literary scholar, a lot of my work has been to do with the book, with stories, with text. I’m influenced by artists and writers who experiment with texts and images, like Tom Phillips and William Burroughs, and techniques such as collage, sampling and remixing. Much of my work uses image and text to re-think and re-work stories and ideas, my own and those of other people, materially painting and drawing on pages or making collages. I'm developing my practice across different media, including painting, mixed-media works, and I have an ongoing interest in theories and works about sound. My current work, which draws upon experiments with time and dimension by HG Wells, C Howard Hinton and Marcel Duchamp, explores how we might read and write the spaces of North Wales, and especially the Dee Valley, which is where I live.
